32% of computers infected, despite anti virus

Computer users assume that the popular antivirus programs will protect them against malware (viruses, spyware, Trojans, etc). But our research shows this is not correct. We scanned over 100,000 computers with Hitman Pro 3, and almost 32% of the users that have an up-to-date antivirus program installed is still infected with malware.

When Hitman Pro 3 scans the computer, we also check the status of the security software. What program, what version, and what version of the updates. More than 25% of the computers we checked did not have an up-to-date Antivirus software. Of even greater concern is that that 32% of those with the latest antivirus software were found to be infected with malware.

None of the security programs did have a 100% score of non-infected users. In other words, all vendors have let malware slip through. And we see that not all vendors find the same malware. If users could combine different vendors, this would reduce the number of infections.
